IATF Guidance to ISO/TS 16949:2002. This document was written to provide guidance in the application of ISO/TS 16949:2002. It’s to be used for reference only and not as a standard. Automotive suppliers are directed to consult various Web sites, including www.iaob.org, to keep up-to-date with the changing materials for ISO/TS 16949:2002.

Abstract ISO/TS 16949:2009, in conjunction with ISO 9001:2008, defines the quality management system requirements for the design and development, production and, when relevant, installation and service of automotive-related products.

The IATF 16949 technical standard, formerly known as ISO/TS 16949 or simply TS 16949, governs several aspects of quality management within the automotive industry.

However, unlike ISO/TS 16949, the IATF 16949 standard does not include the requirements from ISO 9001:2015, but rather references them. For this reason, any company that is seeking certification to IATF 16949 must ISO 17025:2017. ISO 17025 is a bit of a different animal from the previous two standards we discussed. Whereas ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 are Quality Management standards, ISO 17025 is a testing and calibration standard.
